Mentalist: Who is Red John?

So I keep watching this show The mentalist. I prefer Dexter. But that is beside the point.

This show is about a mentalist who works as consultant for CBI, and he is really good at reading into people and situations. However he has the hidden agenda to catch Red John (the serial killer who killed his family).

There are two things that go for this show. One thing is the whole mentalist trickery. But the most important thing that make people watch even bad episodes, is the secret identity of Red John.

It is a lot of fun watching the forums on the Internet. People have wild ideas and theories about who he is.

Now, the fun part of this wild guessing game is that people (including me) are clueless. There is just no way to know for sure. Clever script writers I suppose.

The best guess I have heard so far, is that Red John is the blod technician that has appeared in two episodes (including the first one). (Dexter anyone?)

Not a bad guess. But I have a feeling that the writers put him in there to make people think that it is him.

This is who I wish Red John is:

Do you remember Rudy from the first season of Dexter? That is who I wish Red John is. Wouldn't that be so cool? Rudy is Red John!

Consider that both Red John and Rudy are addicted to creative blood handling. Of course, Rudy is not alive. But perhaps it works a bit like mentalist takes place before Dexter.

My conclusive guess:

This is my number one guess of the identity of Red John. The character that the mentalist is hunting. My guess is... Jane himself. Yes. Red John is the mentalist. It would be so fitting. Him chasing himself in some wild "schizophrenic game."

However I hope this is not the case, because the truth is we have seen this to often in movies. However, this is my most logical conclusion after watching 2,5 seasons of the mentalist. The only character that I see as Red John is Jane himself.
