10 500 days of Summer (2009)
Movie about a guy who gets dumped by a girl he loves. And it is both about their time together and the time it takes him to get over her. For anyone who has ever been dumped (and doesn’t feel like watching a break up comedy like Forgetting Sarah Marshall), this movie is perfect. Has a sort of mellow feel to it. It is not super funny, it is not super sad. It is a mix of both, and in a good way, that works because it is not only reminding of reality, but captures the essence of being dumped. The ending cheers me up.
09 Elizabethtown (2005)
This movie is a copy of Garden state (see nr 5 on the list). But it is really good. Same story, guy goes home to bury a parent, and meets a girl that changes his life. The formula works. And this one is different from Garden state, so it can be enjoyed just the same. But just so you know, Garden state IS better.
08 six days seven nights (1998)
This movie is a simple and adventurous matine flick. Harrison ford plays a sort of Humphrey Bogart character, that flies a engaged woman (Anne Heche), but crashes the plane. They start hating each other while trying to survive on a island and escape from it. Then they sort of get to like each other. The movie is kind of easy going, and doesn’t take itself so seriously, and when you feel bad, it could be enjoyable to watch that kind of movie. You know?
07 Bad news bears (2005)
This is the remake of a classic, but I like the new one. Not because it is so much better, but because I really like Billy Bob Thornton. Every scene with him is just eye catching. He is funny since he is naturally not trying to be funny. But the movie is about a drunk former baseball player who coaches a baseball team for kids. And in doing so, he basically, well doesn’t change much, but he learns that “winning is not the most important thin, especially if it don’t make you happy.” This one I recommend, if you have lost something, or failed, or not performed perfectly at something.

06 Indiana jones and the last crusade (1989)
This is a great adventure. But it is such a delightful script. The main characters are so bonded, and the music and visual effects make this a wonderful quest for magic. Don’t really know why, but it does make me smile and feel good whenever I am stressed or whatever. Makes me relax.
05 Garden state (2004)
This is a movie that captures me. It is almost like the main Character in the movie is me. History of depression and anxiety. The best part is how Zach Braff captures the “emotionless” face of someone who is pumped with antidepressants. Or as his doctor says, “with so much lithium, I’m surprised you can even hear me.”
04 Goonies (1985)
About kids, and probabl mostly for kids. But come on, who doesn’t feel like a kid again watching this movie? I love it. I hope there will be a sequel some day. But at the same time, Im afraid it would destroy the legacy. Goonies just feels like the spirit of childhood. You know, it is like feeling what they are feeling in the movie. So innocent and guilty at the same time. Cheers me up on rainy days.
03 Little miss sunshine (2006)
This is a really amazing movie that puts a 2 hour smile on my face EVERY single time. The story is just not important. The characters are. It is about family, about disappointment, and misery. I will put a smile on your face, guarantee it. Make me feel good about my disappointments.
02 Beautiful girls (1996)
Willie (Timothy Hutton) goes back to his home town, to clear his head about his adult life. He has the perfect girl, but isn’t sure about anything. He meets his old friends (Matt Dillon, Noah Emmerich, Rosie O’Donnell) and meets a few new friends (Uma Thurman, Natalie Portman). It is basically a male version of Bridget Jones diary. It is about the troubles of growing up as a man. To me it sort of comforts when I watch this movie, to learn that I am not alone in my insecurities as a man.
Genius dialog with Rosies character Gina:
Gina: Yes. Let me explain something to you, ok? Girls with big tits have big asses. Girls with little tits have little asses. That's the way it goes. God doesn't fuck around; he's a fair guy. He gave the fatties big, beautiful tits and the skinnies little tiny niddlers. It's not my rule. If you don't like it, call him.

Gina: Yeah, that's nice right? Well, it doesn't exist ok. Look at the hair. The hair is long, it's flowing, it's like a river. Well, it's a fucking weave ok? And the tits, please! I could hang my overcoat on them. Tits by design were invented to be suckled by babies. Yes, they're purely functional. These are silicon city. And look, my favorite, the shaved pubis. Pubic hair being too unruly and all. Very key. This is a mockery, this is a sham, this is bullshit. Implants, collagen, plastic, capped teeth, the fat sucked out, the hair extended, the nose fixed, the bush shaved... These are not real women, all right? They're beauty freaks. And they make all us normal women with our wrinkles, our puckered boobs, hi bob, and our cellulite feel somehow inadequate. Well I don't buy it, all right? But you fucking mooks, if you think that if there's a chance in hell that you'll end up with one of these women, you don't give us real women anything approaching a commitment. It's pathetic.
Gina: No mater how perfect the nipple, how supple the thigh, unless there is some other shit going on in the relationship, besides the physical, it's going to get old, ok? And you guys, as a gender, have got to get a grip. Otherwise, the future of the human race is in jeopardy.
01 Peaceful warrior (2006)
This movie works! Everytime I see it, I feel inspired. Dan (Scott Mechlowicz) is a troubled teenager who can’t sleep because of high expectations. He is also a gymnast. And one day (night) he meets “Socrates” (Nick Nolte), who works at a gas station, and he becomes his teacher. Dan learns to become the best he can be, by letting go of bad thoughts and focusing on the presence. I really recommend it for ANYONE.
